I am already 71 years old and this is my first ordination ever. I am impressed with what I have seen and experienced in this five days retreat as a ten preceptor. I take this opportunity to say Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu to Bhante Dhammasubho, my teacher Sayalay Santi and others who make this third ordination program in Nandaka Vihara a successful and meaningful one to me.
Dear fellow golden age ladies,
Please come to participate and to share.
Sayalay Dhammacari's (Hong Kong) comments:
My nine days at the Nandaka Vihara retreat were unforgettable and awakening -- I learnt so much about myself and the path to inner peace.
Sayalay Paññāvati's comments:
My Dearest Mankind,

Sayalay Khema's comments:
I have joined the novitiate program for the past three years and this is my fourth time and my first experience in Nandaka Vihara and I found out that this program in this vihara further enhances my spiritual development and I am indeed grateful to it.

My nine days at the Nandaka Vihara retreat were unforgettable and awakening -- I learnt so much about myself and the path to inner peace.
I was anxious and filled with worries of the unknown when I arrived -- nervous that I would not be able to wake up at 4 in the morning, for example, and the thought of shaving my head was also an anxiety. When I was called for the head-shaving -- it was a moment of trepidation. I thought, "Oh dear, this is it." The minute Brother Soon Beng started shaving, however, I felt myself starting to let go.
The next day, after the ten precepts ceremony, wearing our monastic robes, I began feeling a sense of serenity wash over me -- my worries and attachments began to fade away. The energy of peace and harmony within the Samaneras, the Sayalays and our teachers, as well as the daily meditation and activities (which felt so natural to me) triggered a serene energy within myself.
When I first heard about the retreat and the short-term ordination, I was very drawn to the prospect of joining the retreat as a way of liberation from worldly affairs; to practice my concentration and transform my unwholesome thoughts, words and actions.
I left having honed those skills... but also emerged with so much more. These nine days have seen my own mindfulness practice blossom -- perhaps my hidden inner potential has been set free. I also feel that this is just the beginning... :)
One event I learnt a lot from was Pindapata -- standing at the market receiving food from kind passer-bys -- that motivated me to practice more in order to be worthy of the food donation. To walk barefoot to the market is a form of letting go, also, of the attachment to the illusion of "I."
I'd like to express my sincere appreciation to all the volunteers and helpers at Nandaka Vihara -- without their love and support to provide us food, we would not be able to practice freely. Thank you, also, to the brothers and sisters in the Dhamma for their sharing of the practice.
My teachers -- Sayalay Santi for her teaching of achieving concentration and her words of advice: to keep the water boiling and not to lag in the practice. Thank you. And to Bhante Ananda -- who taught me the four protective meditation. Last but not least, I would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Bhante Dhammasubho for inviting me to join the retreat.
To anyone who is thinking of joining the retreat -- you will walk away learning more about yourself and your hidden potential. You will begin to find yourself and your inner peace along the way. In our everyday lives it is hard to just drop everything, but the retreat allowed us to do that and explore different dimensions of ourselves -- to achieve a blissful mental state of mind.
May each and every one of us attain enlightenment.

My Dearest Mankind,
- Sustaining our very life depends on one single breath.
-Living moment by moment according to our good or bad kamma and in total ignorance is indeed a true suffering.
Dearest Brothers/Sisters,
Please wake up and to start walking (to cultivate) the Buddha’s Middle Way.
Please experience by yourself the “Back to Nature” and “Back to Senses” in Nandaka Vihara. Any single retreat could be your life’s turning point.
What did I learn from these five days retreat?
-I was greatly inspired by Bhante Vimalasiri and Bhante Ananda chanting. Their chanting resonates and vibrates.
-Pali chanting is in my primary list in pursuing Buddha’s Teaching and coincidentally they have Pali class on that Friday 24/8/2012 at 2pm. This is where we can learn the correct and precise pronunciation of Pali words.
-Bhante Dhammaputta’s Hokkien Dhamma talk touch on the fine details of Buddha’s Dhamma and believe or not, I understand and got the “wisdom light” – so fast??
-Bhante Dhammasubho general Dhamma talks and comments daily actually “enlightened” me and to make me go in further and in depth study of what Bhante is conveying.Dearest Brothers/Sisters,

I would also like to take this opportunity to say Sadhu 3 times to everybody involved in this auspicious programme.
Sayalay Vajira 的感言:-
这是我第一次短期出家, 在这短短几天我感受到出家原来不是这么简单的事, 有好多东西要学。我是个初学者, 我也会好好走向修行的道路。

1. When the condition is right and there is a chance, we really have to take part in this ordination either as a monk/sayalay. You may never know we may not have another chance again.
2. Here we are taught Anapannasati(Samantha) as it is part of Buddha’s teaching we should learn it as if we have mastered it and still not get enlightened yet in this life, it would be useful in ou
r future cultivation.
3. We were fortunate to have Sayalay Santi to be here to guide and teach us and share with us the Dhamma such as :
-how to put on the robe as a sayalay.
-meditation – Anapannasati -> always come back to the breathing
-> don’t push away things we don’t like neither do we grab on to those we like.
->She says it is like riding a cart, balancing the speed initially until it is like auto-cruise then just keep the mind on it putting more effort/reducing it

4. During pindapata in:
i) the vihara, the rice were offered in the bowl by school children – the feeling is great and happy
ii) At the market – very touched by the people who come to offer.
It reminds us to practice diligently.

5. Lastly Maha Sadhu to all the Bhantes and Sayalay and all the participants, helpers and devotees for all their gratitude, guidance, help, dana, time and effort.
May all these be a condition for the attainment of Nibbana.
Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!
May all these be a condition for the attainment of Nibbana.
Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!
